Devika Rao is a passionate and talented Indian Classical Dance performer with a wealth of experience choreographing and dancing across the globe,having performed more than 1200 times in the last 2 decades. Versatile and imaginative, she is capable of producing and performing innovative and modern dance pieces steeped in tradition.She has also undertaken many teaching and workshop projects, delivering high standard of education,giving children and adult’s access to Indian arts through music and dance.
Devika started teaching Bharathanatyam in 1999 and has 15 years experience as an Yakshagana artist (traditional dance form in Karnataka). She also has over six years' teaching experience in Sridevi Nrithya Kala Kendra, Mangalore. She has undertaken Indian Folk dance workshop sessions for the Bunts Association in Mumbai, India; as well as at Tulu koota in Mumbai focusing on the Folk Dances of Karnataka. At present, she is continuing to develop herself through training for the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) teaching qualification.
In April 2007, Devika gave an enthralling performance of Yakshagana - folk theatre from South India, which was enacted at Cleackheaton Town Hall (West Yorkshire).
