Awards have been given annually since 2000 and Swaralaya organizes the Gandharvasandhya every year as a coming together of the best and most renowned exponents in the art of music from all over the country.The festival becomes an occasion to honour and felicitate stalwarts with the prestigious Dr. K. J. Yesudas Awards.

M. G. Sreekumar is a two-time National Award-winning Indian playback singer and music director who works in Malayalam cinema. With a career of over 25 years, he is one of the prominent male singers in the Malayalam film industry. He is known for matching voice with Malayalam actor Mohanlal.
