This art form is a mocking dance drama, which is based on the epics of god Shiva, and his wife goddess Parvati, this dance expresses the assumption of the two gods during their human forms, as Kakkalan and Kakkathi- who are in the attire of nomadic tribe of fortune tellers, however the epic only is a basic part of Kakkarissi Natakam, which often turns into subtle analysis of modern society.
Kakkarissi natakom is a satirical dance-drama based on the puranic legends of Lord Siva and his consort Parvati when they assumed human forms as Kakkalan and Kakkathi - a nomadic tribe of fortunetellers. The script is a blend of Tamil and Malayalam. The chief characters are Kakkalan, Kakkathi, Vetan, Velichappadu, Thampuraan and the ubiquitous Jester.
